The five pillars of islam

Islam is the greatest religion in the word, It came to bring people out of the darkness of unbelief, polytheism and ignorance into the light of peace, faith and knowledge. This approach that came to achieve these lofty goals must have columns on which it is based, which are pillars of islam.

In Islam there are five pillars every Muslim should adhere to submit to what God (Allah) said in Qoraan and what the prophet Mohammed (Arrasoul) said in Hadith.

The prophet Mohammed (Arrasoul) said in the Hadith : (The islam is built on five: there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his prophet, prayers, alms-giving, fasting during the month of Ramadan and pilgrimage to Mecca if you can.)

What is the meaning of each pillar in order ?

The Shahada

The Shahada is basically saying: “there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his prophet”.

In Arabic language we say ”Achhado anna la ilaha illa llah wa achhado anna Mohammadan rassoulo allah”, it considered also as a key to join and follow Islamic religion if you are not already Muslim because the first thing to do if you want to be a Muslim is to said The Shahada in Arabic language, when you did then you are officially Muslim.


Muslim pray in mosque, it's one of islam pillars

Muslims must pray five times a day, Salat Assoubh, Adduhr, Alaasr, Almaghreb and Salat Alichaa.

They are one of the important pillars in Islam, because the first thing that Allah will ask Muslims in the other life after death is prayers (salah).

Muslims can pray anywhere not necessarily in the mosque, they can pray individually at home or anywhere you want in condition to be clean. However, as a Muslim I’m meant to pray towards Mecca.


Alms or Zakat is an obligatory donation in islam

Alms (Zakat) is one of the five pillars of islam, God has imposed Zakat on funds that have the potential to grow and increase, which are cattle, gold and silver, as well as crops, fruits and commerce.

It is an obligatory donation in special cases at a specific time. And that is for the money that has reached the legal quorum, and the amount is specified in Islamic law, by a precise system, and with certain conditions.


Fasting or sawm is an important pillar in islam

Fasting is defined as abstaining from all things that break the fast (sawm) from dawn to sunset in the month of Ramadan.

It’s is one of the five pillars of Islam, Muslims must be adhered to as it came without adding or decreasing, So the physical breakers are eating, drinking and sexual relations.

During Ramadan, Muslims renew their awareness of and gratitude for everything God (Allah) has provided in their lives, as well as a period to stop doing sins and evils, and forgive people to live in peace.

When the sunset comes, after the Adhan of Almaghreb, Muslims break the fasting by eating dates and milk, because this is what the prophet Mohammed did it, and Muslims must follow him.

One of the five pillars of Islam is the pilgrimage (Hajj) that God (Allah) imposed on Muslims once in life, in a condition of health and financial ability.

Kaaba is a cubical building covered in black exist in Mecca in Saudi Arabia, it considered the Qibla (the direction where Muslims pray), it’s built by the prophet Ibrahim.

Muslims came from the worldwide to do this islamic pillar, it has also its specific.

  • Standing in Arafah : It’s by the presence of the pilgrim in any place of the land of Arafah, at the specified time for standing.
